Tis the season, as we celebrate the final weeks of 2018.... Fit for Growth...mind, body & spirit! "She wore her troubled past like scars - she had been through battle and though no one could see her demons they could see the face that conquered them. Atticus" You cannot hide from your inner self. You cannot sleep it off or surgically remove it. You cannot eat, drink, shop or exercise it away. You have to turn towards it and embrace it. Get real with it and allow it to show you another way, a different you. There are points in our life where we take parts of us and we lock them up and throw away the key and then we have to grow up. So we have to use logic. We're in fight or flight. Self love is about going back and opening that hope chest and connecting with that part of you. Face your fears head on - find the fighter in you! Be Brave ❤ Nobody can save you but yourself - and YOU are worth saving!!! Its a war not easily won but if anything is worth winning - this is it. . Everything happens for a reason, we may not see or understand why at the time. Don't hide your hurt beautiful soul! Grab a hold of it. Run it through the purifying flame of your heart and mold it into something beautiful 💗 Allow the depths of your pain to expand the breadth of your compassion. Gather up your stumbling stones and build a bridge for someone else. Remember what it's like to be lost in darkness so you can be someone else's much needed light. Don't deny your pain or bury it away. Let it rise to the surface. And then transform it into something so powerful that the very essence of your being shines brighter than it ever did before! Happiness is....finishing a 10 week challenge and my only measure of success being how I feel. Not how much weight I may have lost or how my fitness levels have improved but simply how good I feel 🙌 . I am always fascinated how much we can grow and flourish if we grant ourselves the privilege. What starts as immense terror and fear turns to complete and utter ecstasy in almost an instant! That euphoric feeling when you break through barriers that have held you back your entire life.... . What started for me as a health journey turned into something far greater than I ever could have imagined. It has challenged the very essence of my being. Everything inside me has changed, yet I am more me than I have ever been! . Life happens for us not to us....success is never a linear journey. There are going to be failures and hardships encountered. It's those who continue to push when everything seams hopeless, those are the successful ones. . If there is any advice I could share it's to give YOURSELF permission to shine. Shine brighter than you ever have, step out from behind your own shadow...leave a legacy you are proud of 💗 do what you love and love what you do! Enjoy the journey and make sure you celebrate when you arrive at your intended destination. . Today’s workout - The World is your gym ••••• Took it outside, had super awesome fun with the 10kg weighted “sand bag” from  @decathlonnairobi Swipe left to see the rest of the exercises. . . . Did a killer 3 round session, combined with uphill jogging (when you have the weight) and sprints (without the weight). That was an amazing 🔥 workout. Cycled 7 miles one way to warm up for the stair exercise. My legs were shaking from having depleted all fuel due to  #fasting before exercising. As soon as I finished (6 floors x 17 sets = 102 floors) I had some  #salmon and  #peanutbutter and my legs stopped shaking. Week 9...hello chocolate...yip after 10 months that's a wrap, bring it on I say! Tis the season haha . Next challenge, water! I have really let my water intake slip and wow have I noticed the impact big time. For me focusing on bite size pieces, small challenges, makes them more achievable and sustainable. It builds confidence too which then ripples into every part of my life. If I try to change my whole world, it has the opposite effect, and my whole world literally starts falling apart. Focusing my attention on small realistic goals has allowed me to achieve what I set out to do. And who doesn't like to feel like they are winning at life. Find what works for you! To the little boy who has well and truely stolen my heart 🖤 We have been on such a massive rollercoaster ride together and on the other side has emerged a beautiful boy with such a big heart! Once almost paralysed by fear and a lack of self belief this little boy stepped out onto that stage with a smile as big as his heart and totally owned it. A memory I will have forever, pure magic. And boy does this kid have rhythm, totally unlike his mum haha . How incredibly humbled I am to call you my son! You are destined for greatness my boy. Week 8, day 3....Meal prep🍇🍒🍉🥝 This is a quick food shop for one and will generally last the week. I will top up on fresh fruit/vegies throughout the week. . I prep my food on both a Sunday and Wednesday. Not only does it ensure I am eating a well balanced diet but when we all live such busy hectic lives, it is super convenient too! . Smoothies are my goto breaky & perfect over the summer months. When you don't have the luxury of sitting down to eat, they are the perfect option to ensure you are getting all the nutrients your body needs. My student  @milkered ! He is a student of mine that I am very proud of and have great respect for. . When Derek first DM me on Instagram, i quickly arranged a video call with him to find out more about him, his condition and goals. He was inactive for 8years due to a few heart bypass surgery and a slip disc. When I first met him, he had so much to work on. His cardiovascular, strength, core, flexibility. Afraid to bend his back or jog to aggravate any of his injuries, the functionality of Dereks' body was greatly degenerated. . Today, he has come a really long way! [Turkeys getting up] When you try to teach a bunch of boys to do Turkish Getup and they feel like the exercises makes no sense until they replace their shoes with the kettlebell. Working on their shoulder stability because Kayaking requires the shoulder to move in a repetitive circular motion. Without proper strengthening, the risk of injury is much higher. Took us 1.5hrs but by the end of it, all 40kids could do it with the kettlebell(:

Now, I do about 50% at the gym and 50% outside. It’s absolutely awesome to have access to a gym, especially that gym is as awesome as  @icechambergym, but I still have clients who absolutely love training outdoors because that's the only time of the day when they actually get outside. #  # But what about equipment when you train outside? Very impressed with  @alvinng8 progress in just 3months! Being sedentary his whole life, he pluck up the courage to embark on his fitness journey. Was a very tough and mind battling start but he perservered! Not being able to lift 8kg or handling his own bodyweight, he is now running 5km comfortably, lifting 16kg and swinging 20kg. [Listen. To your Body] We can plan the best training program and execute it with a performance mindset but there’s just this much our body can do before you reach a point of injury and that limit differs for everyone. Hence, listen to it and we will be able to perform to it’s full potential. I spent the last 6 years trying to find the balance, to do what’s best for my body, and not my ego. In competitive sports, we are forced to push beyond our threshold, of mind over body, ignore all pain and now that those become natural for me, it’s tough to learn when to rest, when to take a step back. “Kids let’s take a group photo!” ... And this is what happens😂 Had so much fun coaching these kids Badminton for their PE lessons this month! Definitely not something that I’m very good at but it’s a good opportunity to learn along the way and to teach them what they need to know to be able to play this sport enjoyably with their friends! Next up! Rock climbing for their PE lessons! If only PE lessons in schools were this fun 😂😂😂 This bunch of kiddos are a lucky one!

[You can only be as great a Teacher, as you are a Student ] With dyslexia, she has much difficulty in her motor coordination, understanding of instructions and ability to focus. Coupled with a hot tempered nature, Steph has taught me patience. Steph has been with me for about 7months now and I’ve always wanted to coach her well but haven’t really found a way around her until recently. It took many trial and error, different ways of speaking to her and getting her to listen, different method of helping her to understand that she can’t be frustrated and has to keep trying but the efforts paid off! Today she onsight(sent on 1st try) 2x 5C routes and made it halfway up the 6a route! It’s an amazing feat for her and when I saw her on the route executing the techniques that I taught her, I felt even happier than she was. As coaches, we can either groom our kids to become a person they WANT to be or we can dictate who they think they CAN be. That’s how much influence we have on them. Steph told me that she has “No musical bones” and it was only after a few violin lessons so at the end of the day, I’m Glad I helped her to feel that rock climbing is her thing and she believes She can do it(:

[240 Storeys] To complement that once a week run, stairs is one of the best ways to train our strength endurance. It’s repetitive and tough but the results are satisfying (: Only 1 rule, don’t touch the railings or the legs so that we use purely the strength of the legs to finish the climb. It’s my 3rd time doing a 4x40 storey. The 1st training was an average of 8mins 10s. 2nd was an average of 7mins 38s. Today, it was 7:01, 6:45, 6:46, 6:42 mins. I was pretty impressed with the 1st set and the next 3 was purely mental. The last, I ran half of it because I knew my legs were dead. Last 80 storey was a cool down. Just to go through the motion because I need to last the 11km run (: Everytime I do a good set, I’m wondering if I can still push it a little faster the next time round yet I know that if I do it at the same intensity with the improved cardio and strength, I know I can do it. The question is “Can you push it that hard again, knowing that you will feel just as much or even more pain than the previous set?” This is why I only do it once a week because it requires too much mental strength to do it well(:

[11km Run - Week 3] The aim for me is to run just once a week, only this 11km trail distance and bring the timing to under One hour. Did my fastest ever 11km today in 1hr1min30s, even faster than what I was doing in the National team😆 I expected a slight improvement but definitely not a cut of 3.5mins from the previous timing. Running is not my thing so to run hard ALONE, it’s 80% mental and 20% physical. With this, I talked myself through it, applying the same breathing exercises in Swimming to running. Tapped on the strength from the functional training and stairs work, hence that improvement this week(: However, the rate of improvement differs from person to person. If you foundation is strong, you improve fast, if not then more time is needed to see its results.
